Siga Siga, 2019, unfired clay, nails (38'' x 38'' x 1.5'').
Clay is extruded and dried, the form of each loop and squiggle changing as the clay breaks when placed on the nail or held too firmly, each knot and curl becoming closer to a line the more the piece is handled. “Siga siga” — slowly, slowly — is a common saying in Greece, take your time, everyone tells one another. The act of creating this piece was careful time, but the piece over time cannot exist, as it will slowly fall apart and disintegrate. The shadows feel stronger than the physical material.
