The grate over the window, 2019, recycled wood, cork board, ink and paper, clay, string, a needle, 48'' x 12'' x 26''.
I copied the pattern of the grate that protected the gallery window with clay -- another wave pattern — and created a tenuous sculpture that contained elements of my own family and their “East” vs. “West” history. Meant to be fragile and perfectly balanced, during a talk in the gallery, a spectator accidentally touched the sculpture with his foot and it collapsed, some pieces of the ceramic grate breaking -- the action seemed fitting.
